What is Sausage Fest?
Sausage Fest is the 21st century version of the old Walla Walla Catholic Schools Fall Festival that so many of you “old timers” remember well. The idea for Sausage Fest was first explored over a beer and some German polka dancing in 1999 by some Walla Walla Catholic School parents attending Christ the King’s Sausage Fest in Richland. “We can do this” one ambitious mom said. The rest of us laughed and shrugged off the idea. We returned to Richland in 2000 and yet again in 2001, each time our group growing larger. Finally, Lisa Jacobs informed us that we were going to start our own Sausage Fest and we were going to have the first one in 2002. She mobilized an initial group of 12, picked a date, assigned us duties and off we went. Sausage Fest 2002 was a great success, operating in the black the very first year. Attendance has been increasing ever since. Sausage Fest is held the weekend with the first Saturday in October.
Lisa and Rich Jacobs have since left the Walla Walla area but the energy, enthusiasm and vision Lisa had for the Walla Walla Catholic Schools Sausage Festival has moved forward and has become an event that the whole Walla Walla community, not just the Catholic community, looks forward to each year.
If you have not had a chance to attend this fun-filled event we invite you to do so this year. You can enjoy our very scrumptious food while your kids engage in the many fun-filled activities offered. Then you can end your day with friends and family at the Beer Garden. We think that what all of our volunteers offer amounts to a most enjoyable way to help the Walla Walla Catholic Schools continue its mission to provide the greater Walla Walla area with an exceptional Catholic education.
